 According
to documentary records, banaba has been drunk as tea in almost
all over the Southeast Asia, not only in the Philippines but also
in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, India and Nepal for more than
1,500 years. People have drunk banaba tea using banaba leaves from
house gardens or neighborhood when they have edema, dropsy, ulcer,
diabetes or when they are ill conditioned.
Thus, Banaba attracts widespread popularity from
old times. The long history of banaba tea having been drunk in
Southeast Asia
does prove safety of Banaba in Japan.
In Japan, dietary supplements made
from banaba tea or banaba extract have been distributed since 1990’s.
The total amount of consumption of banaba tea is equal to one billion
of canned coffee. No complaint has been reported such as “I felt sick after
taking banaba dietary supplements.” or “An allergy
was caused by drinking banaba tea.” (Data of Banaba Health
Center)
